For every pot sold in December we’re donating 20p towards ingredients that on Thursday 18th December we'll turn into a giant pot and deliver to the night shelter. Last year we delivered over 60 litres of Leek & Potato soup with fresh bread.
The night shelter runs through the winter months, from mid November to late March. They provide a warm, safe and welcoming shelter for up to 100 people each evening who also receive a hot evening meal and a breakfast in the morning. The shelter is constantly oversubscribed. Those who cannot access the shelter when it is full are served a hot meal and drink with some friendly words. On nights when the temperature drops below freezing, they try to accommodate all those that arrive at the door.
"The ethos of WLCHC has always been that we are open to all. Our charity is one of the few that maintains an open-door policy, welcoming all who come rather than only those who have been referred to us. Thus we are able to help the newly homeless and can provide a safety net for those who cannot navigate the bureaucratic process--as many struggle to do.
We welcome people as guests, rather than as ‘clients' or 'service users’. We offer respect and the idea that all people have dignity and value. Our open-access policy allows us time and space to develop relationships and trust. We have found this to be a crucial element that has helped our guests reintegrate back into society. Although our services are made possible by churches and church volunteers, we do not proselytise, and people of all faiths or none are welcome."
Thank you for your support.
